How It Works
How does Valley Green control my mosquitoes?
Our barrier treatment includes application on not only the “harboring areas”, such as trees, shrubs and tall grasses, but also the rest of your yard. We treat the entire lawn to make sure you get the best results. While mosquitoes tend to spend time in those harboring areas, they have to fly over your lawn to get to you and your family or guest. By treating the whole yard, we increase the effectiveness of the application.
Can Valley Green control all of the mosquitoes on my property?
No one can guarantee all of the mosquitoes on a given property will be controlled. Typically, you will see a reduction of about 85% of mosquito activity after treatment. The most significant effect will be noticed within 24 hours of the first treatment, and it will typically last for about 21 days. We guarantee your satisfaction if you sign up for a season-long program.
How long do mosquitoes live? How far can they fly?
Mosquitoes are relatively fragile insects so the average adult lifespan is about two weeks. They typically fly about 1-1.5 miles per hour, and most have a range of 1-3 miles. Certain species in the Midwest have been known to fly up to 7 miles from their breeding grounds. In general, female mosquitoes (females are the biters) prefer to fly at heights of less than 25 feet.
Can you spray just once for a special event, or do we need a treatment plan?
While we provide full-season coverage traditionally, if you have special events you want covered we can do that as well though we do recommend two treatments for the best coverage. Previously we have provided mosquito control for: family and class reunions, weddings, as well as graduation and birthday parties.

Treatment Options
Are there any other options which are as good as having a company physically spray products every few weeks?
There are many other options for treatment, but none can match the effectiveness of Valley Green’s full coverage. Backyard misting is basically like a sprinkler system for controlling mosquitoes, but can needlessly broadcast products when it is unnecessary, adversely affecting non-targeted insects. Black-light ‘bug zappers’ can kill thousands of insects, but studies show only about 5% of the bugs killed by these zappers are mosquitoes, so they are not very accurate and they are likely killing beneficial insects.
I want to minimize mosquitoes on my lawn by myself.
First of all, that’s not a question. Even so, there is quite a bit you can do on your own to control mosquitoes on your lawn!
-Throw away or store any items which can accumulate standing water. If these items are used frequently, flip them upside-down so water does not collect.
-Adjust sprinklers to prevent puddling.
-Inspect your roof, outdoor faucets and air conditioning units for leaks. Repair to prevent standing water.
-Treat standing water with a larvicide to control mosquito larvae. Stock ornamental ponds with mosquito eating fish such as western mosquito fish, goldfish and guppies.
-Clean gutters frequently. Debris can clog gutters, causing water to pool.
Safety
How long is a treatment session?
Treatment time depends on your yard size, but typically takes between 30-60 minutes with our professional applicators.
When will my lawn be treated?
We treat lawns as the weather permits, and tend to work by neighborhood. Your treatment program can start within a week or so of contacting us. We can treat the lawn whether you are home or not. Lawns cannot be treated while it is raining, but once the lawn is dry the treatment can be applied.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically, for full-season coverage, your lawn will need to be treated about every 21 days.
Why do I need more than one session?
The product used breaks down naturally over time, so reapplication is necessary to continue to control mosquitoes who breed nearby and fly onto your lawn.
Do I need to be home when you treat my lawn?
No, you do not need to be home for us to treat your lawn. As long as all pets are left inside and we have access to your yard, it will not be a problem. Our professional technician will leave an invoice on your door after the treatment is complete.
What if it rains after my lawn is treated?
As long as it has been about 30 minutes after treatment, your application should stick. The 30 minutes is needed for the treatment to dry. We keep a close eye on the weather every day. If it is a rainy day or a day with high winds, we may move your treatment forward or back a day.
Treatment Length/Number of Sessions
How long do I need to stay off of my lawn after application?
We ask that you, your children and pets stay off of the lawn until it has dried. This usually takes about 30 minutes. After that, the product cannot be removed except through natural breakdown overtime.
Are your products safe for my children or pets?
Yes. Our product is designed to only control mosquitoes. Humans and other mammals, birds as well as most fish and other insects will not be affected by it. The treatment will break down naturally over time, and will only wash away in the rain if the rain occurs within the 30 minute window after application.
What are the warning signs of Zika/West Nile/other diseases?
