Lawn Aeration In St. Cloud, MN

You take your lawn seriously. In St. Cloud, lawns are a point of pride. So, when your grass starts to wilt at the first sign of an extended heat wave, or your watering efforts seem to flow right off your lawn and into the road, you know to call the experts at Valley Green.

Your soil may be too compact to absorb water readily, and your lawn may not be able to put down the root system it needs. Lawn aeration is the best method to make your lawn less compact and get the roots the water, oxygen and nutrients they need to grow stronger and more robust!

Lawn aeration removes soil cores from your lawn and deposits them above the thatch layer. As soon as aeration is completed, a lot of good things begin to happen to your lawn – and continue for months after the service is performed. Contact us today to set up an appointment or learn more!

Valley Green’s Method

Aeration can be done in the spring or fall, depending on the grass and soil type you have. We recommend aeration during May in the spring – after the first two mowings have taken place – or between August-September in the fall.

After aeration, it takes about 6 weeks for grass to fill in the holes left behind. To speed up the process, we recommend fertilizing the lawn one week prior to aeration.

Why Should I Aerate My Lawn?

Lawn aeration is an important part of improving the health of your lawn. Lawn aeration:

  • Improves air exchange between the soil and atmosphere
  • Enhances soil water uptake
  • Improves fertilizer uptake and use
  • Reduces water runoff and puddling
  • Strengthens turfgrass roots
  • Reduces soil compaction
  • Enhances heat and drought stress tolerance
  • Improves resiliency and cushioning
  • Enhances thatch breakdown

Consider including lawn aeration in your annual lawn care program: it’s a wise decision which will continue to pay dividends at the “grassroots” level long after the aerator is gone.
